This starts out as the kind of city police department story you read about on a regular basis:
[Nashville] Metro Police responded to Lewis Street in Napier Housing just before 1 a.m. and found that Knykholas Lane, 21, was trying to get into his estranged girlfriend's apartment. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the call came in as a break-in.
Knykholas (yes, "Knykholas") was already facing arrest over previously assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Dude is obviously not the brightest bulb in the first place, so returning to the apartment was a really dumb idea.
Don't worry, though, he got dumber:
When told to stop by an officer, Lane reportedly began to run away. He was once again told to stop and proceeded to fire a shot at the officer.
A lazy over-the-shoulder shot at a pursuing police officer. As we said, not too smart.
The officer here takes cover as Lane runs into the darkness, shooting as he goes.
All respect to Officer Eric Ziegler, who was shot at but kept his cool enough to take immediate cover and loan his new friend a couple 9mms:
Lucky for Knykholas, the shots were not fatal:
Far from it, as a matter of fact:
Officer Ziegler returned fire, shooting the suspect in the leg and buttocks.
Not only is Knykholas feeling the physical pain from those shots, but he's now the butt of the joke in this local news headline:
Can't say he didn't have it coming!
