There aren't many words to describe this: Children being lifted atop a crowd to make it over the gates at Kabul airport so they can get out of Afghanistan amid the Taliban's takeover.

It's hard to imagine a situation so bad that you might quite literally toss your children into another country—without you—in order to get them to safety. But maybe we don't have to imagine it anymore.
