In potentially the most horrifying stories in what was a presidential term chock-full of horrifying stories, Jake Tapper told Katie Couric that Joe Biden's son, Hunter, wielded so much influence behind the scenes that he "was almost like a Chief of Staff."

Yes, that's right. The former president's son - a convicted felon, recovering (?) crackhead, and influence-peddler - was playing a major role in what was going on in the Biden family during his father's time in the White House.

This latest bombshell from Tapper's much-publicized book, Original Sin, falls in line with growing controversy surrounding the former president's cancer diagnosis and the calls for an investigation into who was behind the use of his "autopen" in the closing days of his term in office.

With a preponderance of evidence indicating Hunter was selling favors to foreign entities for years, is it really that far-fetched to wonder if he was selling pardons when his dad was on his way out the door in January?

Even if he wasn't behind any autopen shenanigans, just the notion that Hunter — who was under federal indictment, mind you — was making important decisions for the family amidst his father's cognitive decline is absurd.

But no more absurd than the entire Biden presidency.
