Watch Ted Cruz eviscerate the Dems' calls for gun control and lay out a path for laws that preserve both life AND liberty

On the heels of the mass shooting in Colorado, Ted Cruz absolutely demolished the case for increased gun control.

Watch this five and a half minutes of straight fire:

"I agree, it is time for us to do something," said Cruz. "And every time there's a shooting, we play this ridiculous theater where this committee gets together and proposes a bunch of laws that would do nothing to stop these murders."

Cruz leveled his opponents who said conservatives have no answers to these mass shootings, bringing up a bill he co-sponsored in 2013 and again in 2019 that Democrats shot down. The law would have increased the efficiency of the national background check system to better identify criminals, fugitives, mentally ill individuals (while strictly defining what this means) that attempt to buy guns illegally.

From Fox:

"The bill would also create a task force to prosecute those who attempt to illegally buy guns. According to a representative from Cruz's office, the bill also requires U.S. Attorney's offices to designate at least one federal prosecutor for gun cases, and provides $15 million to hire more prosecutors and agents for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives."

Democrats killed the bill twice.

Cruz went on to blast Democrats for their calls for bans on aSsAuLt wEaPoNs and "high-capacity" magazines, pointing out that it's their political objective:

"Democrats propose taking guns away from law-abiding citizens, because that's there political objective... not only does it not reduce crime, it makes it worse. The jurisdictions in this country with the strictest gun control have among the highest rates of crime and murder. When you disarm law-abiding citizens, you make them more likely to be victims. If you want to stop these murders, go after the murderers."

I might add that the Founders were supremely concerned about anyone in government that might take away an individual's right to protect themselves, their family, and their property – whether that's a petty thief or the government itself.

"We already know this pattern is predictable over and over and over again," continued Cruz. "There are steps we can take to stop these crimes. You know what the steps aren't? The steps aren't disarming law-abiding citizens."

Fact-check: True.

"Every year, firearms are used in a defensive capacity to defend women, children, families roughly a million times a year in the United States. And the Democrats who want to take away the guns from those potential victims would create more victims of crime, not less."

Cruz said he's introducing his legislation again to "target the bad guys" and "stop them from getting guns" instead of "law-abiding citizens" and "their Constitutional rights."

Does that make sense? That makes sense.

Kudos to Ted Cruz for not being afraid to call it like it is.
