You're never, you know, hoping for this sort of thing. But man, when it happens... it's quite a sight to see.
Background:
[Sea Dogs Pitcher Marcel Renteria] lasered a pitch right into [Rumble Ponies first baseman Tyreque] Reed, who immediately earned a walk and allowed the Sea Dogs player on third base an easy route home to score a run.
However, Reed made it only halfway on his journey to first base before Renteria said something that clearly got his attention.
What was said exactly may remain an eternal mystery, but whatever it was, it struck a nerve with Reed who immediately made a beeline for Renteria and levelled him with a crushing right hand.
Eventually both sides retreated as Renteria writhed in pain on the ground and received medical attention from Rumble Ponies staff members.
Reed was ejected from the game as a result of his haymaker and so too was Rumble Ponies third baseman Brett Baty, who presumably did something a little naughty amid the chaos.
I gotta say—nailing a guy with an 80mph beaner and then talking smack as he's walking it off? Not cool bro, not cool. You gotta pick one.
Anyway the moral of the story is: If you get in an MiLB brawl, don't throw a right hook because apparently they'll throw you right the heck out if you do!
