Watch these California shoplifters learn the hard way that the state reinstated felony theft laws.

Three Californian women went on a shoplifting spree in several stores near Seal Beach, taking care to stay below the $950 threshold, just like the old days.

Watch them find out that Prop. 36 is now in effect making repeat shoplifting a felony.

Woman 1: It's a felony?

Woman 2: [Flowerbed], new laws.

OOPSIE!

The video was posted on Instagram by the Seal Beach PD with the following message:

'A friendly reminder that Proposition 36, which increases punishments for some retail theft and drug possession offenses, went into effect Wednesday morning in California,' the Seal Beach PD wrote on Instagram.

'Don't steal in Seal!'

Proposition 36 opponents Californians for Safety and Justice estimate the new law will put upwards of 100,000 people behind bars over the next year.

California better be careful.

If they take enough of these lowlifes off the street, they might just end up with a nice place to live again.
