I don't know who this mom is, but she just went Mama Bear on Fairfax County, Virginia, and their exorbitant taxes.
Unlike this board who received a 20% salary increase effective 2024 - and, I'm not quite sure what is in front of you, but I am here today, and when I speak to others and others are speaking to me I typically look at them eye-to-eye. And I see a lot of you have been glancing at your cell phones or whatever might be in front of your screens ... I've now sat here an hour and a half and I would like your attention while I am speaking. Thanks.
The perfect humiliating scolding right out of the gate.
It's always a joy to see self-important politicians publicly humiliated like this.
She goes on to explain her grievance to the board.
It is typical of citizens of Fairfax County to receive just a 3% pay increase year-over-year ... Us taxpayers are constantly searching for ways to make ends meet and things to cut out of our family budgets as these minimal increases in our salary are easily surpassed by the 19% increase in everyday goods and services, resulting from inflation.
Examples of these cuts include: delayed family planning, delayed home repairs, no longer eating out, no vacations, and canceling subscriptions, etc.
People's houses are falling apart and they can't afford kids. All while inflation steals our money and taxes go up.
I am not alone in saying that as our family considers having another kid, we cannot afford to expand our family here in Fairfax, County. I'm asking you to take the difficult and time-consuming task of sorting through the budget and beginning to prioritize the needs and wants of your citizens that do not require a tax increase. We don't have that luxury.
Before you tell me, "Well, we need taxes to pay for society to function" let me point out that in Fairfax, this mom certainly has a point. Here's what Fairfax County has used increased property taxes on recently:
Last year, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors gave themselves big raises. They also increased their office budgets, (Chair Jeff) McKay gave himself a taxpayer-funded car, and the Chair is pressing forward with building a COVID memorial in Fairfax County. All of that comes from Fairfax County taxpayers.
More money for themselves and a Covid "memorial."
That's why they're taxing hard-working families out of house and home.
Fairfax is NOT beating the "North of Richmond" allegations here.
