Welp a catastrophic nuclear disaster in Europe looks just a bit more likely today than it did yesterday

As the old saying goes: This is not good, not good at all.

Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was today disconnected from the national power grid after Russian shelling and fires at the facility, Kyiv's energy operator said, jeopardising its cooling systems in a bid to secure supplies for Crimea.

Fires broke out in the ash pits of a coal power station near the reactor complex and interfered with power lines connecting the plant to the grid, Energoatom claimed.

Russian fire and artillery damage to Europe's biggest nuclear facility, in war-torn south-eastern Ukraine, reportedly forced its occupiers to unplug the site to protect energy flows to Moscow-held territories.

These idiot Russian occupiers are over there yanking the plug from nuclear power plants.

The state energy agency is not kidding around:

Energoatom had warned this morning that such a move would jeopardise its cooling systems and risk a mass nuclear meltdown.

"Mass nuclear meltdown" is no joke. This is not a small plant:

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station in southeastern Ukraine is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and among the 10 largest in the world. ...

The plant generates nearly half of the country's electricity derived from nuclear power, and more than a fifth of total electricity generated in Ukraine.

No two ways about it:

Would someone please swing by there and plug the freaking plant back in?
