Were you aware that cops are dressing up like FedEx drivers to make drug busts? Well, they are.

There's nothing like seeing the ol' FedEx van pull up outside your house when you're expecting a special package which you've been anxiously awaiting for weeks. Well, be warned: If that "special package" is actually an eight ball of Colombian flake, that FedEx driver could actually be a cop waiting to bust you:

A federal court ruled this month that evidence of drugs obtained by police from a package at a FedEx sorting center was not seized unconstitutionally, rejecting the defendant's arguments that the seizure violated his Fourth Amendment rights.

At the center of the decision is a little-known agreement allowing law enforcement agencies to seize parcels at the shipping behemoth's sorting centers. Police are permitted to take packages only if a drug dog indicates there may be contraband inside. Individual cops, however, determine which packages merit attention, allowing them to zero in on people's property, dress up as FedEx delivery men, and proceed with arrests if they testify that a drug dog alerted them appropriately.

Look, honestly, this feels a bit unfair. I mean, should you be getting illegal drugs shipped through a courier service? No. Should you be doing illegal drugs at all? No. Are the police within their statutory authority in pulling off such a scheme? It sure looks like it. So...actually, I guess there's not much to object to here, really. Nevermind.

In light of this, however, one thing is obvious: Those "delivery robots" debuted by FedEx a while ago are quite plainly little more than Skynet-style Terminator cop machines in disguise. Change my mind.
