US wildlife officials say the best way for Americans to solve our water rat problem is to eat them

Nutrias, a.k.a. water rats, are an invasive species from South America that are taking over swamps and other bodies of water in the southern U.S.

Nutrias weigh about 20 pounds, and can consume their own weight in vegetation every day, so if their populations are left unchecked, they will wreak havoc on our wetlands.

Prior to conservation efforts, they were consuming 90,000 acres of wetlands in the U.S. every year. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service finally has a solution for the problem.

Yes, they want us to eat the rodents!

How is it that everyday we get a little closer to living in the dystopia of Demolition Man?

The wildlife officials assure us that nutrias taste like rabbit.

There's no way I'm jumping on that train.

But we do like to be helpful here at Not the Bee, so here's a Nutria cookbook to check out, and a website with a collection of recipes for all you true patriots prepared to rid our land of this invasive species.
