Canadian reverend tells Christians to stop calling Jesus "savior" because it might offend people 🤔

Feb 10, 2025

Meet the Reverend Brent Hawkes of The Metropolitan Community Church in Toronto, Canada, who thinks that calling Jesus "savior" is offensive to people of other faiths and the title should be removed from the church.

He also thought marrying gay men was fine, even before it was legal in Canada, but that's neither here nor there, though it certainly helps explain this heretical nonsense:

Many, before they come to our church, will check out the website to see what this church is about: so see what they believe. And many of the folks that did that will tell me, out in the community, 'Brent, I looked up your church, and it sounded reasonable, but when I got to that word "Savior", it was a problem.'

"REASONABLE?"

Sounds like something Satan would say!

Let's assume just for the sake of argument that Brent is being completely honest here, and that this situation really happened.

His solution to people being offended by Jesus Christ is to tell them that anyone and anything can save them?

And for me, 'savior' means the person, persons, or situations that help me to heal my relationship with god.

(Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and lower-case the situational "god" since Brent is talking about a different deity than the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.)

Rev. Brent then chides faithful believers for believing the basic things that make one a Christian:

I would hope that someday, this church would see the possibility of changing that word because it is a stumbling block to so many.

YOU CAN'T MAKE IT UP!

The name "Jesus" literally means "God saves." As the angel tells Joseph:

'She [Mary] will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.' - Matthew 1:21

Salvation is the point!

But the stumbling block reference is even more on the nose. The Apostle Paul literally calls Christ's crucifixion and resurrection for our salvation a stumbling block for those who will be offended by that claim:

'But we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles.' - 1 Corinthians 1:23

Jesus explicitly says that people will be offended by Him, and that He came to offend, because He says he is the ONLY way to God and heaven.

'Blessed is the one who is not offended by me.' - Matthew 11:6

'Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.' - Matthew 10:34-36

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.' - John 15:18

'Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."' - John 18:37b

Someone please send this "reverend" a Bible!
