The photos are absolutely stunning, and the story is frightening.

An American swimmer, Anita Alvarez, was competing in an artistic swimming event when she fell unconscious and began to sink to the bottom of the pool.

Her quick-thinking coach Andrea Fuentes saw the swimmer go limp, and before the lifeguards could even react, jumped into the pool to pull Alvarez out to safety.

Fuentes was herself a competitive synchronized swimmer back in the day and she was ready to put her skills to the test in her lifesaving mission.

The bravery is amazing to watch.

Alvarez is recovering, and all vital signs were good after the incident according to a statement from Coach Fuentes!
