Kent Broussard fulfilled his lifelong dream this weekend when the retiree, who recently enrolled at Louisiana State University, debuted as a freshman tubist for the Golden Band from Tigerland.
This dude is my new inspiration!
Kent worked his butt off in preparation for the marching band audition. He went in with no expectation that sympathy would get him a spot in the band.
Here's WAFB:
'I brought it up to the family about five years ago, and at first, they were wondering — is he serious?' Broussard said. 'As I kept talking about it, they said, ‘Well, he is serious.''
...
Kent enrolled as a full-time non-traditional student at LSU, carrying 12 credit hours. Then, the real work began.
'Part of the training I did was run 25 miles a week, started lifting weights about six months ago,' Broussard said. 'High School and college we didn't march. LSU is a marching band, so I'm gonna have to learn this from the beginning. I've been so focused on this with the practicing and the marching and the playing, learning the songs. I actually practiced outside on my patio.'
All of this work to earn a spot in the Golden Band from Tiger Land.
Broussard put in the work, y'all! Trained at home, ran, lifted weights, got in shape, and enrolled in college as a full-time student at 66-years-old.
Real quick I gotta show you this photo of his first day of school:

'It's that dream I've had for 30 years, to do this. My slogan is: people retire, but dreams don't,' Broussard said.
Man, this old guy is such an inspiration!
