Some people just can't move forward into the New Year until they've seen the ball drop from the flagpole atop of One Times Square in NYC.
Thanks to Coronavirus, there won't be any crowds to watch the drop this year. Instead, folks will have to settle for live-streaming it or watching it on TV.
But if you're tired of ringing in the New Year the same old way, or you just want a crazy way to close out one of the weirdest years in history, did you know you could opt to watch a 20 lb Lebanon Bologna drop from a crane in Lebanon, PA?
Or a giant Peep drop in Bethlehem, PA, home to the Just Born candy company that makes the marshmallow treats.
Or maybe your fancy is an Acorn Drop in Raleigh, NC …
An Onion Drop in — where else? — Bermuda …
A Giant Peach Drop in Atlanta …
A Steaming Baked Potato Drop in (of course!) Boise, ID …
Or a Clam named Steamer dropped from the bell tower of the First Universalist Church in Yarmouth, ME (ok, so maybe this one won't be televised).
In a sad update, the Annual Mt. Olive Pickle Drop is canceled this year.
But no worries — the Mt Olive Pickle Company has something special in store just the same!
Like so many events in 2020, this year's Pickle Drop is canceled. Instead, we will webcast a 30-minute compilation of past pickle drops this December 31 from 6:35-7:05 p.m. at www.mtolivepickles.com. So, as always, the pickle will come down the pole at 7 o'clock sharp!
Of course, there's more! But you've got the point.
Turns out there's something for everyone.
And these people didn't just come up with these whacky ideas because it's, well, 2020. Nope, most of these have been annual events for years, some even decades!
Who knew?
But check your local listings, as we fear more than a few of these might go the way of the giant pickle.
