Youth football coach accused of punching 14-year-old player in the face

Football coaches are supposed to be leaders. This is not leadership.

No matter how intense the game gets, no matter how much your team is down by, no matter how much the opposing team gets your goat, you cannot, ever, do anything like this.

A 50-year-old coach with a youth football league in Riverside County, California, was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly hit a 14-year-old boy who was playing for the opposing team in the face, authorities said Tuesday...

Authorities added that the incident occurred after an altercation between the two teams — the Perris Panthers and the Murrieta Broncos — along with the coaches and parents.

Neenah Kaowili, the teen's mother, said that Funes, a coach for the Murrieta Broncos, punched her son in the face, knocking him unconscious for two minutes. She said her son suffered a seizure as he regained consciousness.

First of all, as a coach, it's your job to keep these altercations from happening. You get your kids out of there and back to your sideline. If the kids want to fight, they can join the wrestling team.

Second of all, if you, as a grown adult, are punching a 14-year-old in the face, knocking him unconscious, you might want to rethink your career in coaching. In fact, this guy will have no other choice.

This should be a lesson to all football coaches out there. At any moment you could lose your cool and do something crazy like this. You gotta keep your mind right and showcase to these kids the correct way to be a man. Keep your composure, be calm, act like an adult.

And don't you ever punch a kid in the face. That's the ultimate wimp move right there.

Police arrested the 50-year-old coach on allegations of child abuse with possible great bodily injury and battery. He was released after posting bail of $35,000.

Good.
