Adults in charge: As the world melts down, U.S. State Department celebrates Intersex Awareness Day

I think we all remember where we were when we heard the news on June 30, 2021. Our long national nightmare was finally over. At long last, Americans - my countrymen - were going to be given a 3rd gender option on all State Department documents like passports. It was moving beyond words.

Besides correcting the discriminatory oversight of those humanoids who are neither male nor female, it was the surest sign yet that, as promised during the 2020 Biden campaign, the "adults were back in charge."

Fast-forward two years and another reminder of the serious maturity that defines the halls of the Biden administration is upon us. While the Ukraine-Russia war drags on near the two-year mark, while Israel faces a generational fight against Hamas and their bloodthirsty vow to wipe Jews from the earth, the U.S. State Department is in hot pursuit of what really matters:

While something this ridiculous would be easy to point and laugh at (although the impulse to facepalm and cry is equally strong), there are a multitude of rational voices cautioning us that nothing good comes from mockery and public ridicule. I completely disagree, and here's why.

While kindness is always a worthy objective, there are times that blunt criticism and moral shaming can be powerful weapons for justice and righteousness. And, as those with a properly calibrated moral compass know, securing justice and pursuing righteousness is itself an act of kindness. Ask the great abolitionist voice of Frederick Douglass who fiercely combatted the moral evil of slavery:

At a time like this, scorching irony, not convincing argument, is needed. O! Had I the ability, and could I reach the nation's ear, I would, today, pour out a fiery stream of biting ridicule, blasting reproach, withering sarcasm, and stern rebuke. For it is not light that it is needed, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder.

Slaveholders who quoted the Bible, who pretended there was moral justification for treating fellow human souls as chattel property, were offending both the nature of God and the character of humanity made in His image. Douglass rightly understood that what caused that was far less about an accidental misunderstanding, for which gentle correction would be appropriate. It was about a willful allegiance to Satan's lies, and only the strongest, sternest, and severest rebuke was suitable.

I do not intend to present a moral equivalency between the West's wicked dalliances with the brutality of slavery and the propagation of gender confusion. They are entirely separate issues, while at the same time being established upon the same foolish premise I mentioned above: "Offending the nature of God and the character of humanity made in His image."

Therefore, perhaps what is needed in this current cultural moment is a healthy dose of Douglass-endorsed sarcastic ridicule. Moral shaming for those who advance morally shameful public policy, the kind that exacerbates suffering and pain for adults and irreversible body mutilation for kids, the kind that facilitates and fuels an aggressive spike in suicidal tendencies, is in order.

Far from "adults" being in charge, the positions of greatest influence in American culture today - from politics, to entertainment, to science, to academia - are overpopulated by moral reprobates who deserve every ounce of "biting ridicule, blasting reproach, withering sarcasm, and stern rebuke" we can direct their way.
