Something dawned on me a few weeks ago. I am far more intrigued and interested in writing about and discussing the frustrations and failures I perceive occurring within the modern Republican Party than I am the absolute fecal show that exists on the left side of the American political spectrum.
Having committed itself to a policy agenda facilitating the destruction of human life, human nature, and the human family, the modern Democrat Party has disqualified itself from serious moral consideration to men and women of a grounded moral conscience. While the Republican Party is well on its way to rendering itself ethically intolerable themselves, there is at least some intrigue remaining as to how long its collapse can be avoided.
That's why the majority of my politically oriented commentaries are focused on the MAGA populist phenomenon, the evolving embrace of radical sexual politics, and rejection of traditional principles on the right.
Yet even that predisposition of mine cannot overcome looking and gawking at the unfolding nightmare transpiring within the Biden campaign.
In case you somehow missed it, the Special Counsel who investigated Joe Biden's handling of classified documents released a credibility-crippling report last week. In his report, Robert Hur nailed Biden for a major offense: retaining classified documents from his time as vice president and revealing highly sensitive pieces of military intelligence to a ghostwriter he had hired to write his memoirs.
"Mr. Biden's lapses in attention and vigilance demonstrate why former officials should not keep classified information unsecured at home and read them aloud to others," Hur scolded.
It doesn't look very good for the Democrats to be prosecuting the former president - and Biden's 2024 opponent - for classified document mismanagement considering this report. But that isn't only the tip of the embarrassment iceberg for Team Biden.
Hur's team recommended no criminal charges, not because there was an absence of criminal conduct on the part of Joe Biden. No, they recommended no criminal charges because they believe the president is too confused and disorientated to be able to functionally stand trial.
Yikes.
But it didn't stop there. Remember, I said this was enough of a trainwreck that it even took my attention away from the Republicans' best effort to squander their 2024 opportunity. Just hours after the report was released, an angry president hastily trotted out in front of the cameras to mumble his way through an attempted defense of his temperament and memory. He came across shaken, agitated, and confused to the point that he confused the names of two presidents on opposite sides of the globe.
It was so bad that leftist CNN contributor Paul Begala had thoughts:
He wasn't alone. Outrage filtered its way through the ranks of Congressional Democrats who increasingly see their party's standard bearer as an albatross hanging around their necks.
Take note of that phrase: "that late at night." Now remember this was at 7:45 in the evening.
I understand the Democrat-run media will continue circling the wagons and doing their best to defend the indefensible until such a time as the party makes the decision to remove Biden from the ticket and substitute in Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Gavin Newsom, or someone else. After last week, it's surely just a question of when as opposed to if that happens.
