By now we've all seen her post on X.
Decorated Olympic gymnast Simone Biles wrote a blistering personal attack against women's sports advocate Riley Gaines last week that reverberated far out of the realm of sports, sending shockwaves deep into the culture.
Gaines responded to the attack by sharing her staggering disbelief that a champion of women's sports, and a hero to so many little girls, would strike a public posture that would potentially cost many of those girls the same opportunities, scholarships, awards, and medals that Biles received and achieved herself.
Two sides quickly developed, as is common on social media - one celebrating Biles as a defender of the marginalized…
the other condemning her an enemy of women's rights.
But from my perspective, there's something we can do that is more worthwhile than just watching this sorry spectacle unfold. We can advocate for the truth in our own spheres of influence.
Speak the logical truth that Biles' position is flagrantly, if unintentionally inconsistent.
The Olympian makes fun of Riley Gaines for looking like a man, all as part of her effort to defend the dignity of men who dress up like women. Not to mention that Biles herself once attempted to generate awareness about body shaming by sharing her own experiences of being bullied for…wait for it…looking like a man. The contradictions are too much for any grounded thinker to overlook.
Speak the moral truth that this sudden attempt to normalize men playing women's sports is part of a social contagion that will eventually disappear.
It is not some suddenly realized civil right that humanity - including Simone Biles - just discovered a few minutes ago.
Speak the scientific truth that ignoring biological reality is worse than supporting such anti-intellectual, preposterous notions as a flat earth.
It should also be noted that belief in a flat earth, while cerebrally deficient, does not result in the physical mutilation and chemical castration of fellow human beings. The crimes against humanity committed by proponents of transgenderism will be remembered long after the goofiness of flat earthers has gone extinct.
Speak the spiritual truth that our Creator designed human beings not with interchangeable or self-defined identities, but as distinct, purposeful realities.
Rejecting His wisdom and authority will not lead to mankind's flourishing, but will erode the beauty and goodness God has woven into the human experience.
Ultimately this issue is about far more than Simone Biles, Riley Gaines, or women's athletic events. It's about whether our civilization will preserve or abandon deeper truths about identity and the uniqueness of human design. Truth will win out, that much is assured. The only question that remains - and the one that each of us should play a part in answering - is whether the West is still around to celebrate it when it does.
