Is Kevin Sorbo’s new comedy on X any good? Here’s the scoop.

With conservatives all but shut out of Hollywood, they've had to start their own alternative media companies. Some are gaining tons of traction with multi-million dollar budgets like Jeremy Boreing and Ben Shapiro's Daily Wire, Bill Abbott and Tom Hicks's Great American Media, and Vid Angel's Angel Studios.

But Hollywood isn't the only platform for entertainment.

I can't count all the great low-budget shows I've enjoyed on YouTube over the years. Gems like...

Chad Vader

The Grabowskis

And then there was the crossover of The Grabowskis and Chad Vader:

Oh, those were better days — back before YouTube also jumped on the Marxist propaganda train and started de-platforming conservative ideas and using its algorithms to prioritize LGBTQ activists and unboxing videos.

When Elon Musk bought Twitter and changed it into X (the everything platform), he also monetized creators by sharing ad revenue with them, just like Youtube does, but without all the commie red tape. Not only has the opportunity for the low budget sitcom reemerged, but also the opportunity for the low-budget conservative sitcom.

And in that vein, I present you with X's first sitcom: Potwins (my thoughts to follow):

I don't know what the budget for Potwins was, but it definitely has the feel of those old Youtube series. For example in one suspend-your-disbelief moment, they have a courtroom scene around a conference room table instead of in a courtroom.

Yet, there must be some budget because there are some well-known actors in the show, including Not the Bee favorite, Kevin Sorbo.

Also starring,

John Lovitz

Barry Bostwick (aka Brad Majors)

And Tia Carrere (in another suspend-your-disbelief moment you'll have to see to not believe)

In the show, Kevin Sorbo‘s character owns a paint supplies store called Potwins Paint. The first episode revolves around him being sued by two gay men that want him to install their hot tub, a service he doesn't offer, being a paint store. They, of course, suggest he won't install their hot tub because of his bias against gay people.

It's as if the plot were ripped from today's headlines!

In terms of a review, the dialogue isn't always very natural. There are too many cliché phrases that seem like they're little more than filler to hit that 20-minute mark. I couldn't tell if it was the stilted dialogue or if the characters genuinely lacked chemistry, but it's hard to buy the family dynamic the show presents.

The soundtrack uses quirky noises to highlight what are supposed to be funny moments, which almost made me turn it off. I'd rather hear the forced laughter of long-dead audiences from Charlie Douglass's laugh machine than whatever that zaniness was.

While the show has a sitcom feel, not all the jokes land. To be fair though, I did laugh out loud more than once, which is better than SNL these days, so you've got that going for you Potwins!

I wish I could give it higher marks, but years of mediocre entertainment on YouTube have given me such a highly sophisticated palate, you see.

Out of novelty and a desire to help the cause so to speak, I might watch more, but hopefully there's more in the fuel tank than this pilot brought to the track, or this show's race is heading for a fiery crash.
