Nancy is out here clapping back like she's still the speaker of the House.
And she's dead wrong.
I don't need to get long-winded with you about the intent of the 14th Amendment. All I have to do is give you a story in 3 sentences.
My first post-college job was teaching international students English. Most of them were Saudis. Many came here pregnant so they could get U.S. citizenship for their babies.
That's it. That's how easy it was to be an "American." You hop over here as a tourist, stay a few months, pop a kid out, and BOOM, U.S. citizen.
I love the cognitive dissonance that politicians like Pelosi have.
On one hand, America is an idea not constrained by borders on a map.
On the other hand, the soil is magic and it automatically makes you an American if you are born within our borders.
America is a sovereign nation with a specific people united by a specific culture with specific laws and history. People can add to that tapestry, but they have to live here, commit to our culture and laws (this includes not illegally entering our country), and pledge allegiance as a citizen.
Saying you're automatically an American because you were born here is as nonsensical as saying you're a member of a gym because your mom had you during a pilates class in 1986.
Oh, but about that pesky 14th Amendment, here's an 1866 newspaper clip that Pelosi might want to read. It quotes Senator Jacob Howard of Michigan, the author of the amendment:
This [amendment] will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons.
Since the law is clear, why is the Left opposing it so hard?
One might infer they actually hate their own countrymen!
