Tapper and Thompson should be resigning. Instead they’re making money off a story they were too cowardly to cover.

Yesterday here at Not the Bee, Joel Abbott reported on the new book from CNN's Jake Tapper and Axios' Alex Thompson, including its bombshell account about Biden not recognizing perhaps the most recognizable actor in the world at that time, George Clooney.

Several questions immediately come to the mind of any sane person, including:

If Clooney, Obama, and others there were so startled, don't they have a moral and patriotic obligation to say something?

It's not as if we are talking about the night manager at Wendy's clumsily slipping a pickle onto a spicy chicken sandwich where it doesn't belong because he's slipping cognitively, after all. We're talking about the man in control of America's nuclear arsenal.

Then, of course, there's this - check out the last line of this tweet from the director of editorial communications (whatever that is) at Axios, Jake Wilkins:

Correct, Mr. Wilkins. They are just now starting to talk about it. That's the issue.

The media has a sacred trust to uphold. They are to be watchdogs working on behalf of the American people - asking tough questions, exposing corruption, digging to undermine the powerful who exploit the powerless. Tapper, Thompson, and all of them failed miserably to do that - whether intentional or not. Now exposed for their dereliction of duty, the only honorable thing to do would be apologize and vacate your important position to permit someone both capable and willing to do the job. But Tapper and Thompson both lack the integrity to do so.

But it gets even worse than that. What is truly galling is that far from resigning in disgrace, these two are now actively trying to take the money of the very Americans they betrayed as they peddle a book about the story they were too incompetent, or too compromised to cover. It's unconscionable arrogance.

So which was it? Were Thompson and Tapper incompetent or were they being obedient lapdogs for the Democrat Party. The arguments go back and forth. They were dupes:

They were in on it the whole time:

It's certainly fair to point out that every non-political American in the country could tell he was a doddering old man who couldn't speak coherently. For any member of the media to not only fail to ask questions about it, but (1) bully anyone who did, and (2) actively wage a campaign to convince people otherwise, is permanently disqualifying.

(Yes, I'm looking at you, Joe Scarborough.)

If there's a more humiliating video circulating online these days, I don't know what it would be. Talk about selling your soul for a political party.

But as for Tapper and Thompson, dupes or co-conspirators, their credibility is obviously toast. You're no good as an "investigative journalist speaking truth to power" if you are so oblivious to reality that you can be duped into believing a dementia patient is actually "sharp as a tack." And obviously you can't be considered an objective news anchor or journalist if you're actively collaborating with one political party to bury the truth for electoral gain.

Moreover, for anyone who would attempt to argue, "Well, but they've learned their lesson and won't be so trusting next time," I simply say all evidence to the contrary.

Notice what these two men are not doing right now. As they peddle their book for profit, Tapper is not sitting in front of a camera, Thompson is not penning articles saying, "They lied to us about Biden's health. So, what else have they been lying about? It's time to do some digging."

If they'd learned their lesson, that's what they would be doing. The fact that they are not doing so, but instead are accepting awards from fellow journalists and basking in accolades for having a New York Times bestseller is because they haven't learned their lesson, and will be just as cooperative the next time the Democrats have a scandal to bury.

So line their pockets with your dollars if you want to read the salacious tales that we all knew were happening but listened to these very men telling us were conspiracy theories.

They aren't getting a dime from me.
