It's admittedly difficult for me to see stories regarding the Trump administration's crackdown on criminal illegal aliens, and not come to very disappointing conclusions about the previous administration and its defenders.
Start with what has been reported:
That first story accounts for a 33-hour period. The second one indicates a 24-hour period. How can anyone look at that type of efficiency in cracking down on violent offenders in the country illegally and conclude anything other than the fact that it's a choice? It's not a matter of resources, technology, tracking ability, or manpower. Protecting American citizens from criminal aliens in the country was always what it is right now - a matter of will.
The current administration has it, the previous one did not.
But if that's the only reasonable conclusion, then there needs to be a reckoning for so many of the supposedly social justice-minded Christians who courageously work their way into social media feuds the moment a Republican administration takes office. To be clear, I'm speaking of those who are actually Christians and who actually take seriously the scriptural commands to love mercy and seek justice, not those who delight in torturing the biblical text simply to advance a false social gospel.
If I might be so bold, allow me to simply ask the Red Letter Christians, Shane Claiborne, Skye Jethani, Phil Vischer, William Barber, Diana Butler Bass, and so many others:
Where were you over the last 4 years? Where were your voices demanding the Biden administration act in the name of justice to protect the innocent "least of these" against the violence of this multitude?
Commentator Allie Beth Stuckey explained it very well almost a year ago:
Every single crime committed by an illegal immigrant is preventable. Not a single one should ever occur. Laken Riley, Mollie Tibbetts, Kate Steinle and so many others would still be here if we simply secured the border and enforced immigration laws.
How could any Christian who claims to stand on the side of justice exude such indifference towards the safety and security of women like Riley, Tibbetts, Steinle, and so many others? What motivates that callousness?
Sadly, this is no isolated incident.
Days ago, an illuminating exchange took place on a British television program between a transgender activist and television commentator Michelle Dewberry:
Notice there was no answer given by the trans-apologist.
Here again, for those who claim concepts of protective justice are in their wheelhouse, where have they been? Where have the Red Letter Christians been to promote the biblical red letters of Jesus when He affirmed the divine design of only two sexes?
Where have they been to promote the biblical red letters of Jesus when He warned not to bring harm upon or cause a little one to stumble? As an entire movement of disturbed, criminal, and predatory men have fought successfully for the right to invade private spaces of women, where have the social justice warriors and refined "biblical" feminists been to express outrage?
Why the deafening silence?
There is an obvious conclusion, of course. Those particular social justice causes - defending women and children against violent criminal aliens or against predatory men presenting as women - run afoul of left-wing politics. Could it be that the silence when it comes to those justice issues reveal that their motivation is less about justice and more about politics?
I sincerely hope not. True Christian doctrine will offend all manmade political ideology at some point. Professing believers must be careful to always stand with the former over the latter; and in cases like this where they appear not to be, it's appropriate to ask why.
