Romir Parker, a 12-year-old from Virginia, was honored for his bravery by the Petersburg City Council after he saved his two young brothers and grandmother when their home caught fire earlier this month.

Romir was in his room upstairs when he smelled the smoke. He told CBS6,

I go downstairs, it's just black smoke all throughout the house.

His two brothers, aged 1 and 2, were both asleep on the couch. Romir said he grabbed both of them in his arms and brought them outside, before running back into the smoke-filled house to help his grandmother.

When asked how he found the courage to put himself in danger, the 7th grader told reporters,

It's my little brothers, I don't care. Cause the only thing that matters is I got my little brothers out of the house and my grandma.

Firefighters arrived in less than four minutes, but the fire had already devoured much of the house.

Petersburg Fire Chief Wayne Hoover said of Romir,

The bottom line, he saved his family's life.

He went on to say,

When he turns 18, he's got a job with us.

For the time being, though, the fire department did name Romir as an Honorary Firefighter, an honor he most definitely deserves.
