"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them." – Richard Henry Lee, 1788

While this 14-year-old from Kansas may not have been facing British redcoats, there's a truth that rings in the words of this Founding Father. Most adults these days have no idea how to even hold a gun, let alone use it for defense or hunting. Paslie Werth defies this sad trend, bagging a massive 42-point buck and setting a record for the "largest non-typical buck ever taken by a female" in the world.

According to her proud dad, Paslie grew up shooting, received her hunter safety card at age 11, and has gotten a buck every year since.

Paslie got this buck a day after youth hunting season opened in September, taking her shot from about 25 yards. She and her family had been watching the deer for about three years but had no idea it would stand up so close to them that evening.

"My sister passed on the buck, and then my dad passed it on last year, because it was pretty broke up when he saw it, and this year, was kinda just my year," she said. "It was very shocking when I got him."

Don't mess with Paslie.

After the rack dried for 60 days, it was officially measured using the Buckmaster scoring system, which measures every inch of the antler around every point. Paslie's buck scored 271 inches, beating out a 1997 record of 257 inches set by another Kansas girl.

"When we got the score, it was hard to wrap [our heads] around because none of us guessed it to be that much. And it was just very surprising, and I kinda couldn't believe it," said Paslie. "The trail camera pictures that we got did not do it justice."

One thing's for sure: if there's ever a societal breakdown and people are scrambling to find frozen pizza at Walmart, Paslie's going to be just fine.
