If Boudin, who was elected in 2019 on a wave of optimism over the future of reform-oriented prosecution, is turned away in San Francisco — the very bastion of liberalism — what hope for the criminal-justice-reform movement is there in the rest of America?
By "criminal justice reform," he means:
- Defund the police.
- Release criminals from jail.
- Decriminalize crime.
- Take away your guns.
- Gulags for those who complain.
This real San Francisco is a city of fewer than 900,000 people that increasingly lacks a working-class population that could buoy progressive candidates.
Yes, because leftist politicians drove them away.
The city's Black population is vanishing.
Yes, because leftist politicians have destroyed their families with abortion and welfare messages.
The tech boom, now old news, fueled real-estate prices to such a degree that the old-line residents who didn't have the luck to buy a home 30 years ago or secure a rent-controlled apartment are long gone.
All those tech giants are leftist and woke. Surely they want to help the community, right?
A severe housing shortage has never been alleviated, as strict zoning laws strangle new development.

But guess what, dude? No Republican has been in control of San Fran since 1964 (and "Republican" doesn't always equal "conservative"), the entire city council is Democrat, and less than 10% of the population are registered as Republicans.
The city has been led by hardcore "progressives" who have "progressed" the town right off a cliff in their dogged pursuit of urban utopia.
Doesn't matter. The "real Marxism has never been tried" crowd needs some copium.
You guys had your chance for over three generations. We're almost a quarter of the way into the 21st century. You blew it. You screeched and trumpeted about the New Man – the modern, humanist intellectual who would collectivize society to lead humanity into a godless, sanitized future – and it fell flat. Totally flat. Abysmally flat.
