Why do this? What's the gain here? Someone let me know because I can't nail it down.
Authorities closed Santa Monica Pier after a man climbed onto the Ferris wheel and claimed to be carrying a bomb, police officials said Monday. ...
At about 4:45 p.m., Santa Monica police posted that no bomb had been found: "The suspect is in custody and will be transported to a local hospital for evaluation," police said.
So the guy had no bomb but he climbed a Ferris wheel and claimed to have one...why? To what end? Did he have any demands or ransoms or stuff like that? If he did nobody's saying. Seems like he might have just been unbalanced and wanted a thrill? Maybe?
In any event, here's some shots of the dude up there doing his fake bomb threat:
According to one media report, though the suspect may have been attempting to make demands of some kind during the incident, police were "unable to hear what [he was] saying as he was sitting directly in the center of the 85-foot tall ride."
Just a very weird and dumb idea all around.
