You may have heard this week of the mother who was so terrified of catching COVID from her son that she bundled him into her car trunk to avoid possibly being exposed to the virus while she drove him to a testing site:
Well, a Texas judge has apparently decided that it's no big deal if you chuck your kid into a tiny enclosed car trunk like a freaking mafia hitman because you're paralyzingly afraid of a respiratory virus:
A Texas judge ruled Thursday there was no probable cause against a mother who allegedly put her son in the trunk of the car to avoid being exposed to Covid-19 -- but the case might not be over yet.
Sarah Beam, 41, was charged with endangering a child after she allegedly placed her 13-year-old son, who had Covid-19, in the trunk to avoid being exposed while she went to a testing site, according to a warrant from the Harris County District Attorney's Office...
Judge Chris Morton ruled Thursday there was no probable cause for the charge.
Um, really?
What about the probable cause of "locking your kid in a trunk for ANY reason?" Like, that's in the books in Texas, isn't it? They got a law there for that?
To their credit, the prosecutor's office is not giving up:
Harris County District Attorney's Office spokesperson Dane Schiller told CNN they will continue to review the evidence and might take the case to a grand jury to see whether there is an appropriate charge.
Still, though...the idea that you'd have to shop this case around is just nuts in and of itself. Is this how bad things have gotten with COVID? Is this the world we live in now?
Pro tip: Don't put your kids in your trunk, you psycho! Just don't do it!
