It is well-established that the self-checkout is better than the normal checkout:
But are we ready for fully automated grocery stores?
No cashiers and no baggers: A Kroger location in Tennessee has recently converted to self-checkouts only.
This change includes new wide-belt self-checkout lanes that are made to accommodate more items in comparison to the number of items that traditional self-checkouts can handle.
And lest you think that this is going to throw people out of work, Kroger says nah, son: "no positions were eliminated" as part of the switch-over, with staff still "available to assist customers in the checkout area and with bagging if needed."
Kroger says, "There are no current plans to expand this nationwide." But yeah, we'll see.
