Early detection is an absolutely critical aspect of successfully treating cancer, and a "game-changer" of a test may soon make it much easier:
A new blood test that could change the way cancer is detected and diagnosed is soon to become available in the U.S.
The Galleri blood test was developed by GRAIL, a San Francisco, California-based biotechnology company.
The test is expected to be able to detect 50 different types of cancer via a blood test such as pancreatic, ovarian and esophageal.
Its rollout would be 'game changer', one expert says, and it could potentially save millions of lives through early cancer diagnoses.
For reference, well over half a million people die of cancer in the U.S. every year.
The Canary Foundation, meanwhile, notes that "the best chance to reduce [cancer deaths] is through early detection and intervention," and that "survival rates improve dramatically when cancer is diagnosed early and the disease is confined to the organ of origin."
Bring on the Galleri!
