Well, gee, no, there's nothing at all wrong with our border and immigration policies. Why do you ask?
An Afghan migrant on the terrorist watchlist spent nearly a year inside the U.S. after he was apprehended and released by Border Patrol agents last year, U.S. officials told NBC News. The man was arrested in February and then released last month again by an immigration judge who was not told he was a national security threat.
So the guy was arrested once, released, spent a year inside the U.S. in spite of being a potential terrorist, was arrested again, and then released again, with nobody apparently telling anybody that the guy was on the terror list??
Just trying to wrap my head around how that sort of thing, you know, happens.
Perhaps the most astonishing part:
Mohammad Kharwin, 48, was freed on bond as he awaited an immigration hearing in Texas, scheduled for 2025, U.S. officials said. There were no restrictions on his movements inside the U.S.
They gave a guy on the terror watch list free rein of the U.S. for a year.
Amazingly, when Kharwin was initially arrested, agents "suspected he was on the U.S. terrorist watchlist ... because one piece of information matched a person on the list." But they couldn't confirm the information so they just let him go โ and "without alerting Immigration and Customs Enforcement about possible terrorism ties."
That's right: They thought the guy might be a terrorist but they were having trouble confirming the deets, so they let him walk!!!
Hilariously, the Department of Homeland Security only became aware of this travesty after NBC reported on it, following which the man was "taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents late Thursday evening."
DHS out here learning how to do their jobs from legacy news network reports.
(Aren't ya glad the adults are back in charge? You feel safe yet?)
Kharwin himself is suspected as belonging to Hezb-e-Islami, a "virulently anti-Western insurgent group" that was "responsible for attacks in Afghanistan that killed at least nine American soldiers and civilians from 2013 to 2015."
Jason Houser, former chief of staff for ICE in the Biden administration, put it best when he said:
"We need to make sure we have processes in place to handle [suspected terrorists], make sure they're detained and we know exactly where they are."
How many more of these guys do you think are out there in a neighborhood near you?
