Bezos is bending the knee too.
First we had Zuckerberg and Meta chipping in $1 million of pay-to-play money to the Trump inaugural fund and now, following the lead of his big tech competitor, Jeff Bezos' Amazon is paying their pittance of a million bucks to Trump.
Is Trump making these tech guys pay him money to try to get a seat at the table?
Amazon said on Thursday that it was planning to donate $1 million to President-elect Donald J. Trump's inaugural fund, part of a pattern in which tech companies and their leaders are taking steps to repair their relationships with Mr. Trump.
Trump may have more beef with Bezos than any of the other tech bros, but the Amazon and WaPo owner seems to be working overtime to mend the fences.
Amazon and its founder, Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post, have had a rocky history with Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump had long harbored frustration with Mr. Bezos over reporting in The Washington Post. During his first administration, Mr. Trump had also questioned whether the U.S. Postal Service gave Amazon a sweetheart deal, and Amazon accused Mr. Trump of improperly pressuring the Pentagon to deny the company a major cloud computing contract.
But over the summer, Mr. Bezos spoke with Mr. Trump after the former president was shot at a campaign event, and on social media he praised Mr. Trump's 'grace and courage under literal fire.' More recently, Mr. Bezos has said that he is 'very optimistic' about the incoming Trump administration.
Translation: They're bending the knee and playing nice in hopes that Trump doesn't turn the tables on them after their years of kissing the ring of power in the deep state.
We've seen some of the Facebook files and the Amazon files. We've read the WaPo. We know who they serve.
Or, at least, who they used to serve while there was a deep state monopoly. With Trump draining the swamp they realize that opposing Trump will cause more harm than good this time around.
In the end, however, they want to make money. And even if they can't stand Trump they know that he is SO much better than Biden.
