Welcome to the world of "tolerance," "niceness," "inclusion," and "equity.
This very "tolerant" and "inclusive" school district in Colorado decided that they would throw all the rules of society out the window because #Progress.
YES, a little girl was assigned by the Jefferson County School District of Colorado to sleep in the SAME BED as a boy who "identifies" as a girl on a cross-country school trip.
According to the parents, the school hid all of this from the parents of the young girl. Mom and dad don't need to know that a boy is sleeping in the same bed as a girl because TRANS GIRLS ARE GIRLS, right?
Represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, Joe and Serena Wailes are calling on the Colorado-based Jefferson County School Board and Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Tracy Dorland to clarify "whether JCPS will continue this practice of intentionally withholding information about rooming accommodations from parents like the Waileses, who object to their children rooming with a student of the opposite sex, regardless of the other student's gender identity."
Sadly, the fact that this is a policy at a Colorado public school is almost the least surprising thing I've read this week.
The Wailes' 11-year-old daughter, who is identified in the letter as "D.W.," was assigned to a room with three other students, according to the demand letter. Two of these students were girls from her school, and the third student was a boy who identified as a girl (named in the letter as "K.E.M.") who went to a different school.
D.W. and K.E.M were told that they would share a bed, and that evening, when the students were in their room together, K.E.M. reportedly revealed to the girls that he is a boy who identified as a girl.
The little girl went to the bathroom and called her mom, who was on the trip as well, as soon as she found out about her bedmate.
The mom said her daughter was "terrified" at the idea of sleeping with a boy in her room, and in her bed at that!
NO DUH!
"I felt a bit helpless," he (the father) said. "I was 2,000 miles away. My daughter is scared in a bathroom trying to get herself out of a situation. It was a frustrating experience, and I just really felt like it was not a situation my daughter should be put in."
The parents have demanded that the school clarify their policy so this sort of thing doesn't happen again.
I am shocked at their restraint. If this were my little girl, the school would have to worry about more than a strongly worded letter!
In no sane world should parents have to deal with a situation like this.
But this is clown world.
