An Ethics Board Just Ruled That Andrew Cuomo Has To Return The $5.1 Million From His Book Deal

Things keep going from bad to worse in the Cuomo family.

Disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, has just been ordered by the Joint Commission on Public Ethics to repay the $5.1 million dollars he received for writing the book because he violated the ethics policy of the state of New York.

And no, it wasn't causing the deaths of countless elderly citizens or gross sexual misconduct that caused the board to demand he repay the millions.

From the Times Union:

"New York's ethics commission issued an order Tuesday demanding former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo repay the $5.1 million he was paid by a publisher to write the book "American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic."

At the meeting of the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, Commissioner David McNamara put forward the motion issuing the order, which passed by a vote of 12 to 1. An attorney for Cuomo immediately promised to fight JCOPE's action in court, setting up what could be a heated, years-long legal battle."

This is the same committee that granted Cuomo funds to write the book in the first place when Cuomo was the hero of the establishment. Now, they are taking it back since Cuomo has been officially ousted from the public's good graces and is no longer helpful to the Democratic Party.

Here's the violation that caused Commissioner David McNamara to file this motion:

"In his successful motion last month to revoke approval of Cuomo's book deal, McNamara enumerated several ways Cuomo allegedly made materially false statements in seeking JCOPE staff approval to write "American Crisis" in July 2020. Chief among them was that Cuomo's lawyer had explicitly promised that government personnel would not be used to produce the book.

In fact, by the time Cuomo's attorney sought the approval, Cuomo's staff was already deeply involved in the book, including during normal government work hours, as described at length in a recent Assembly Judiciary Committee report."

Basically, Cuomo lied, saying he wouldn't use his staff to work on this book on the state of New York's dime.

There's going to be a legal battle, and I'm sure Cuomo won't just roll over. But this just adds insult to injury for the former governor.

How the mighty have fallen!.
