Arnold Schwarzenegger has a message for Americans who argue that face masks encroach on their rights: "Screw your freedom."
Gotta say, that one-liner is a LOT less memorable than "I'll be back" or "Hasta la vista, baby."
"Because with freedom comes obligations and responsibilities," the Republican [LOL!] former California governor said in a YouTube video released Wednesday. The action movie-star-turned-politician's remarks were part of a discussion with CNN's Bianna Golodryga and Alexander Vindman to promote Vindman's new book, "Here, Right Matters."
Certain responsibilities? You mean like ignoring censorship, mental health, dissenting scientific theories, and mutual respect in favor of unquestioningly obeying the dictates of the ruling elite?
I guess "love thy neighbor" includes "live in fear at the behest of authoritarians and shame anyone who feels differently."
"We cannot just say, 'I have the right to do X, Y and Z.' When you affect other people, that is when it gets serious," Schwarzenegger, 74, said.
The ex-bodybuilder likened opposition to face masks to bucking traffic laws.
"You cannot say, 'No one is going to tell me that I'm going to stop here, that I have to stop at this traffic light here. I'm going to go right through it.' Then you kill someone else, and then it is your doing," he said.
Ah, yes, breathing and seeing other people's faces is EXACTLY as evil as rocketing 120mph through a red light in a metal machine.
"This is the same thing with the virus," the "Terminator" star explained. "You cannot go not put the mask on because when you breathe, you can infect someone else. And you can infect someone that then gets sick and may die."
Yes, because the science on masks is "settled."
Oh, and changing human interaction forever to avoid a vastly survivable virus (that's going to be a regular part of our annual illness rotation either way) is totally a moral solution.
Why stop with masks?
Why not wear hazmat suits to protect everyone from disease or human touch ever again??
"Yeah, you have the freedom to wear no mask. But you know something, you're a schmuck for not wearing a mask because you're supposed to protect the fellow members around you," Schwarzenegger said.
Guess I'm a schmuck since everyone around me is either vaccinated, has natural immunity, or has studied the data and doesn't consider themselves to be in the risk group for death by Rona.
"I don't want to villainize anyone here," he continued, "but I just wanted to tell everyone, let's work together and let's stop fighting because there is a virus, and it's better to get vaccinated [and] to wear a mask."
You literally just called hundreds of millions of Americans "schmucks," even those who have dutifully gotten the vaccine and now want to live life again.
To use one of the famous actor's lines, "Don't be a girly man."
Like all public figures these days, I assume Schwarzenegger has a sound and reasonable argument for the host of people who disagree with him based on moral, logistical, and scientific grounds.
