In response to the murder of a college student in his city, the mayor of Athens, GA, decided to use his time attacking conservatives for pointing out that Laken would be alive today if we could close the border.
In the main, I caution against conflating immigration and crime. The data demonstrates that the two are not connected.
According to "the data" immigration and crime aren't connected.
But according to, you know, reality, Laken Riley would still be alive today if immigration law had been enforced.
Democrat Mayor Kelly Girtz then used the opportunity not only to chide Republicans for "pouncing" but also to stand on the grave of Laken Riley in order to push the "Republicans won't negotiate on the border" message.
I do want to say a few words about this.
It's my 18th year as a local government policy maker and my work has overlapped with 4 US Presidencies and numerous iterations of congress. All of them have failed to reach an agreement on how to handle immigration.
Umm, yeah.
Girtz also took time to attack Trump during this press conference and defend the dignity of immigrants because of course.
Someone with guts, maybe a little too much guts, got himself kicked out during this clip too.
Yeah, this guy is disgusting. (The mayor. Not the protester.)
I kind of really like the cowboy guy calling him lawless, saying he needs Jesus, and calling him a coward.
It's called righteous indignation, sir.
We need more of that.
