Honestly, who would have thought even 10 years ago that we'd be celebrating men and women's bathrooms?
The first time I even remember hearing that this was an issue is when Target announced that they were going to start letting men into the ladies' room.
And now I find myself celebrating, that the Florida Board of Education unanimously passed rules requiring all schools, public, charter, and private, to provide bathrooms and locker rooms separated by biology.
And that was after a divided public hearing.
Of course, I also remember the days when I had to bring home a permission slip for my parents to sign to go on a field trip, and now I'm also celebrating that the Florida board ruled that if the schools also offer bathrooms not sorted by biological sex, they must notify parents and outline their supervision of them.
Parental authority in their children's lives is as fundamental as men and women's restrooms based on biology, and any alternatives or concessions are ceding ground that should never be an issue in the first place.
The involvement of parents in these school processes coincides with the "Parental Rights in Education" bill Ron DeSantis signed into law earlier this year:
Opponents at the public hearing spouted the usual drivel about protecting LGBTQ+ youth.
"This proposed rule has been designated to intimidate school districts from following federal guidance, making schools less safe and adding fuel to a politically motivated crusade against LGBTQ+ youth and their families," said Nikole Parker of Equality Florida.
"We need to stop the stigma, and these ridiculous bathroom predator myths."
I assume by myths she's referring to the documented cases of transgender males raping females in the girls' room.
Supporters of the measure, AKA parents, said they should be fully informed of all school policies that affect their children.
"Hiding a policy from parents only indicates the bad intentions of its nature," one backer told the board.
"During a period of their lives when they are most uncomfortable with their bodies we are setting aside their rights," she said. "Forcing biological girls to undress in front of biological males is wrong."
Thankfully, Florida has continuously shown that the state supports children and parents, and not the Neo-Marxist movement looking to end the nuclear family by creating a new generation of gender-confused, sexual-abuse victims.
