Bed Bath & Beyond is losing so much money that it's been accused of dialing back on AC in stores to cut costs

People have rightly come to expect that the stores they shop in will have climate control, especially air conditioning. Any store that skimps on AC is gonna find itself in deep trouble with consumers.

So the fact that Bed Bath & Beyond is doing just that is... not a good sign for the retailer:

Retailers typically want their sales numbers to be red hot, not their customers. But Bed Bath & Beyond is reportedly dealing with cooled momentum and heated customers at its stores.

A new report from Bank of America claims that the company has cut air conditioning in an effort to quickly lower expenses to make up for a slump in sales.

Look, we all know how we feel when we're in a building that's too hot. It saps us of our strength, deprives us of our reason and turns us into surly, melting monsters.

So if the company is willing to risk that in order to save a few bucks, you know it's gotta be bad for them.

In their defense, the corporation did deny that any of that was happening:

Bed Bath & Beyond told CNN that any changes in store temperature guidelines did not come from corporate. "We've been contacted about this report, and to be clear, no Bed Bath & Beyond stores were directed to adjust their air conditioning and there have been no corporate policy changes in regard to utilities usage," said a representative.

Sounds like a compelling denial, but...

If you happen to swing by a Bed Bath & Beyond at some point, please let us know if it's stifling in there!
