Bet you never knew wolverines could run that fast, did you??

Like many of you, when I hear "Wolverine," I tend to think the X-Man, most lately played by Hugh Jackman:

However, wolverines are real animals. And they're incredibly elusive, so sighting one is always a treat.

And seeing one move so stinking fast โ€” well!

Wolverines are so rare and elusive, even many people who spend countless hours in Wyoming's vast outdoors never get to see one in the wild.

Backcountry skier Nick Gaddy is so lucky he's actually seen two โ€” one in Montana in 2020, and another one on Monday in Wyoming. And he was able to snag video of his Monday encounter as the critter took off across the snowy landscape.

The video is on TikTok; we don't link to that ChiCom site and plus there's foul language in it, but here's the footage captured by Gaddy:

Just look at that thing go!

Wish I could run on the snow that fast! Alas, I can't.

These are pretty amazing animals: the wolverine has "a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself." They can run up to 30 miles per hour.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature says the animal's conservation status is of "least concern," though its population in Europe is considered "vulnerable."
