Charles and Heather Maude are 5th-generation ranchers in South Dakota whom the Biden administration was hoping to put in prison for up to 10 years, but the Trump administration dropped the charges.
What was the crime for which Biden was eager to imprison this hard-working couple and take away their family ranch?
The Maudes' ranch abuts the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, and one of their fences extended into the national park.
The area has been contested for decades. Buffalo Gap became a national park in 1960, well after the Maude's families had moved there. As a neighbor said,
The fence that was there had been there since the 1950s. They didn't just move the fence yesterday.
But the Maudes agreed to a survey of the land.
When the survey showed that the fence did indeed extend into public lands, the Biden administration didn't do the rational thing and grandfather the structure in, as is usually the case with these sorts of issues. Nor did they ask the Maudes to move it.
The farmer-hating socialists had the couple indicted, accusing them of stealing grass.

Not only did the Trump administration drop these ridiculous charges, but its Department of Agriculture set up a lawfare portal for other farmers and ranchers who were targeted by the Biden administration.
The portal has the following description:
USDA launched a new web portal for potential farmer, rancher, and USDA customers who have fallen victim to unfair and politically motivated lawfare originating under the Biden Administration. Impacted individuals or businesses can submit their concerns and experiences below so the USDA team can promptly address the situation.
There's so much that needs to be set right, and I'm encouraged by stories like this that are attempting to move our country onto that path.
