Washington man Dan Phelps has been attempting to evict Dan Perkins from his basement for almost two months, so he recently decided to go down after him with his best friend, Joey Anselmo, and a gun.
But here's the kicker: Dan D. Phelps is legally blind, and his friend Anselmo has only one leg.
Phelps had called the police on the squatter after Perkins decided he didn't feel like being evicted from a downstairs apartment even after the locks were changed. Perkins had let himself in through a basement window.
He learned he was locked out of the home that afternoon and called police for help, according to court records. He said an officer responded and explained he could gain access however he needed since he lived there, so Perkins entered through the basement bedroom window.
Like every other homeowner legally stuck with squatters thanks to awful laws, old, blind Phelps decided to take things into his own hands. He called his one-legged friend Anselmo to come help.
Phelps's son said his father returned home at about 5:45 p.m. and was upset Perkins returned to the house. Phelps called his friend, Anselmo, saying they were going to 'drag him out themselves.'
In the basement scuffle that followed, Phelps fired three shots โ one into the guy he thought was Perkins, but was actually his best friend, one trying to help his one-legged friend up the stairs, and one because he couldn't tell the difference between the trigger and the hammer of the gun.
So how does this crazy story end?
Pretty much the only way a story in a leftist state like Washington would: The one-legged guy ended up with a bullet in his knee, the blind guy victimized by the squatter ended up in jail charged with first-degree assault, and the police helped the squatter stay nice and cozy in Phelps's home.
Washington State, ladies and gentlemen โ the only state in the nation to have trended blue during the 2024 election.
