Brett Favre was in Washington testifying in front of Congress today in a hearing concerning federal welfare reform when he announced that he's been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
He made the appearance after being caught up in the Mississippi welfare scandal back in 2020, in which welfare money was used to build an athletic facility for his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi.
I also lost an investment in a company that I believe was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others. And I'm sure you'll understand why it's too late for me, because I've recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's.
Parkinson's, along with dementia and other brain disorders such as CTE, have been linked to a history of concussions. Favre claims to have suffered thousands of concussions throughout his career, which undoubtedly has led to this diagnosis.
A little info as to why Favre was in Washington:
Favre was at the hearing due to being linked to the Mississippi welfare scandal back in 2020. Favre has not been criminally charged, but the state of Mississippi is suing 38 people or companies in an attempt to recoup $24 million of $77 million in federal welfare money.
Favre, who helped raise money for a University of Southern Mississippi athletic facility, has denied knowing that a $5 million grant came from a Temporary Assistance for Needy Families welfare fund through the Mississippi Community Education Center.
Sad news for the legend, Brett Favre.
