Here's hoping they leave those Californian policies behind, too...

California's total population declined 0.59% in 2021, marking the second consecutive year of decrease (0.3% in 2020), according to a report from the California Department of Finance on Monday.

A majority (34 of 58) of California's counties lost population in 2021, including its three biggest counties:

  • Los Angeles County lost ~70,000 residents (0.7%)
  • San Diego County lost ~1,200 residents (0.04%)
  • Orange County lost ~7,300 residents (0.2%)

San Francisco County also lost roughly 0.8% of its population.

Why is California's population in decline?

"As Baby Boomers age, and fertility declines among younger cohorts, the continuing slowdown in natural increase โ€” births minus deaths โ€” underlies the plateauing of the state's population growth," the report said. "The addition of COVID-19-related deaths, federal policies restricting immigration, and an increase in domestic out-migration further affected population totals."

Although the report acknowledges "an increase in domestic out-migration" affecting population totals, it does not specify why people are moving to other states.

Do you think Leftism has anything to do with it?
