If you didn't get any snow this winter in your neck of the woods, it can be easy to think that it was simply a dry winter (aside from all the rain, of course).
But the residents of Northern California just found out that's not always the case:
California's mountain towns and ski resorts are digging out after a blockbuster blizzard buried them and major roads under several feet of snow.
The storm slammed California's mountains for multiple days before wrapping up Monday. The most extreme conditions targeted the highest elevations of the Sierra Nevada, where over 10 feet of snow and hurricane-force wind gusts of 170 mph-plus were reported.
Just having it described isn't enough. You have to see this madness to believe it:
(As an aside, knowing the history of the Donner Pass, I can say confidently it's the last place I'd like to get stranded in a snowstorm.)
Looks like Northern California in one day just got all the snow the rest of the country missed out on for the whole year.
