Chy-na has broken ground on a gigantic hole that upon completion will reach 33,000 FEET below the Earth's surface. The borehole will penetrate 10 continental strata and reach the cretaceous system in the earth's crust.

According to China National Petroleum Corp., which is in charge of the project, the purpose of the hole is to "provide data on the Earth's internal structure, while also testing deep underground drilling technologies."

I would like to remind you of two things that are always true about the Chinese Communist Party:

1. If they say it out loud, it's a lie.
2. They are hell-bent on conquest and world domination.

Combine those characteristics with a project to burrow over 6 miles underneath the Earth's surface, and it doesn't exactly give you the warm and fuzzies.

The hole is expected to take about a year and a half to complete.
