Citibank meant to credit a customer's account with $280 but accidentally sent him $81 trillion instead 🤣

Oops!

Apparently, Citigroup made an insane error while attempting to credit a customer's account for $280.

Instead, they credited his account with $81 trillion, enough to pay off the national debt more than twice.

Even worse, the error was apparently missed by two employees assigned to check it.

According to the report:

A third employee caught the error one-and-a-half hours after the payment was processed and the transaction was ultimately reversed several hours later.

The report further mentions that there were 10 similar mistakes of a billion or more last year, down from 13 instances the year before. Citigroup was been fined $136 million for failing to address recurring similar issues in 2020.

Sadly for the customer, the mistake was fixed before he had a chance to cash out.

The internet had some fun with this one:

Someone's getting fired!
