When 11-year-old Indicas Koonaloak-Young of Colorado City, Texas, said, "My main goal is to blow up," all his peers heard, "I want to be internet famous," but his teacher clearly had no idea how kids talked these days.
All she heard was a threat and thought he was saying he was going to blow up the school.
The teacher did not even let Koonaloak-Young finish the phrase, "My main goal is to blow up and then act like I don't know nobody," which might have kept this situation from escalating.
My teacher said, 'You're going to do what?' And I explained what the meme was, and she didn't believe me.
She called the administration, which apparently is also not really with it, because they too heard a terroristic threat and immediately suspended him.
Here's the meme that got the kid in trouble. It's from back in the Vine days, and it came from this clip of the rapper Riff Raff.
Let's pause and marvel at that guy's teeth.
Moving on with the story, the school then called the police, and they came to Koonaloak-Young's house and arrested him for being a terrorist.
The 6th grader's father, Bino Villanueva, says his worst fear is that he will have to watch his son get handcuffed and taken to jail after their court appearance Wednesday.
'That's my worst fear,' Villanueva said. 'I don't know what will happen. I don't know if I'll freak out. I feel like I'm going to collapse already. I keep thinking they are going to take him away.'
What do you suppose the chances are that the judge will know how kids talk nowadays instead of thinking this kid is a terrorist?
Then again, aren't all memes acts of terrorism in 2024?
