Mayor de Blasio is requiring ALL PRIVATE BUSINESSES IN NYC to mandate the vaccine for all their employees. Why do people still live there?

New York City was once a pretty cool town. Sure, people had short tempers and there was that smell you had to get used to, but the city was once the most thriving metropolis in the world, packed to the gills with culture, entertainment, education, and the arts.

Now, it's whatever in the heck this is:

"We in New York City have decided to use a preemptive strike to really do something bold to stop the further growth of COVID and the dangers it's causing to all of us," de Blasio said. "All private-sector employers in New York City will be covered by this vaccine mandate as of Dec. 27."

That's right. A first-in-the-nation vaccine mandate on the entire private sector!

I mean, seriously. A ton of the city's wealthiest people (who pay like 50% of all taxes) fled during the pandemic and never came back. You have to show a vax passport to enter a restaurant. Half the city is still shut down. Taxes are completely outlandish, and with the rampant crime you also might get shot in the face.

To add insult to injury, now you gotta tell your employees they need to get the jab, even if you're just a small outfit working long hours to make ends meet?

Vaccinations are already required for hospital and nursing home workers and city employees including teachers, police officers and firefighters. A vaccination mandate for employees of private and religious schools was announced last week.

The city was moving to impose the mandate on private sector businesses even as federal courts have temporarily blocked an attempt by President Joe Biden to do the same nationally for larger companies.

How do you think this is going to go over?

Something like this:

"Yeah, Carl, I really appreciate you giving me a job and everything, but this is nuts. My buddy over in New Jersey says he has a job lined up for me and cost of living is way cheaper over there, so I'm moving out next week."

NYC went from "We'll give you some French fries if you get the jabby-jab" to "Get the shot or die, maggots!" reaaally fast.

Some of you reading this might love yourself a little tyranny (you know who you are), and see nothing wrong with mandates if they actually stop viral spread. These vaccines don't, so how is mandating jabs everywhere for this virus that only kills a tiny fraction of people a "bold" move to "stop the further growth" of the thing?

The deadline for the mandate is December 27th, so enjoy your Christmas, loyal subjects of Comrade de Blasio!

Kids aren't immune from the new orders, either:

Current New York City COVID-19 rules also include at least one vaccine dose for indoor restaurant dining, entertainment venues and fitness centers. Under new mandates for indoor dining, entertainment and gyms, two shots will be required for people over 12. One shot will be required for children aged 5 to 11, who are not covered by the current mandate, de Blasio said.

Look at the silver lining here though: in a decade or two, New York might be so empty that it'll be the perfect place to shoot apocalyptic movies on a budget!
