Hey look, Congress did something!
(A few decades and a gazillion dollars too late, but hey.)
The bill is literally called "Ending Improper Payments to Deceased People Act."
The bill has taken literal years to get through Congress, but in its current form was introduced in January 2025 (again, Congress is so efficient!).
In 2025 alone, the government paid $1.3 billion to dead people. The bill forces federal agencies to cross-reference Social Security death records before sending dead people our tax money.
(No, really, that's all it does. A simple database check.)
A temporary fix to the issue was introduced in 2023. Apparently, it takes years to figure out how to get a government agency to add one simple step to its processes.

Now about the tens of millions we're sending to the Taliban EACH WEEK...
(One quick reminder: When a legislature is so constipated that it's unable to do anything, history teaches us that people appoint a strongman to get things done.)
