Hakeem Jeffries has been on the floor of the House since 5 a.m. and has refused to shut up since.
Only the Senate has a filibuster that allows unlimited debate to block or delay legislation (remember that the purpose of the Senate is to temper the passions of the House, what James Madison called a "necessary fence" against the "fickleness and passion" of mob rule).
But the House has a tradition called the "magic minute" where specific congressmen, usually the Speaker and Majority/Minority Leaders, are recognized for a minute-long speech but are given indefinite amount of time to speak afterward.
This means that Jeffries, the House Minority Leader, is essentially engaging in a non-formal filibuster.
He sure had thoughts about this back when Republicans were obstructing Biden's agenda!
There you have it, officer. Walmart-brand Obama is officially a racist!
Speaker Johnson had thoughts:
You can stop it anytime you want, Mike!
Then again, if the GOP needs a few more votes, maybe they should let him keep talking...
