Costco is seriously doubling down on wokeness at the end of 2024.
Yep, while companies like Walmart, Tractor Supply, and John Deere are disbanding their woke initiatives, Costco's higher-ups want to double down.
The shareholders at Costco are scheduled to vote on a proposal written by the conservative think tank National Center for Public Policy Research, which recommends Costco evaluate its DEI practices, particularly the racist hiring practices that discriminate against straight, white, and Asian men.
The Board of Directors, however, likes things the wokeity way they are.
'Among other things, a diverse group of employees helps bring originality and creativity to our merchandise offerings, promoting the ‘treasure hunt' that our customers value,' the company said in a proxy statement to investors. 'We believe (and member feedback shows) that many of our members like to see themselves reflected in the people in our warehouses with whom they interact.'
Translation: Costco likes their woke policies, woke hiring practices, and thinks that DEI is here to stay. They aren't going to willfully budge.
In addition to urging shareholders to reject the proposal, Costco criticized the National Center for Public Policy Research, accusing the group of pushing an anti-diversity agenda disguised as risk reduction.
'The proponent professes concern about legal and financial risks to the company and its shareholders associated with the diversity initiatives,' Costco said. 'The supporting statement demonstrates that it is the proponent and others that are responsible for inflicting burdens on companies with their challenges to longstanding diversity programs. The proponent's broader agenda is not reducing risk for the company but abolition of diversity initiatives.'
Sorry, Costco, DEI was rejected at the ballot box.
The conservative think tank's "warning" that you are possibly engaging in illegal racist hiring practices is just that, a warning.
